2021 Fall Trends

With July ending it is officially Autumn in my world. This could be due to the fact that I love dressing up for Halloween, so basically it’s spooky season. We don’t get the changing of the leaves or the slight cooler weather here in Florida so a girl can only dream of wearing all these autumn/winter trends and collections. Along with this unhealthy delusion came the idea of this post. These are the trends that I would love to wear if only it were colder.

I’m very excited about leather, (I’m always excited about leather). We definitely saw an increase of leather pieces in the last year or two. With the peak of leather pants and blazers coming into play. We even saw the leather pants go from skinny to wide leg because of “cheugy”. But it’s not just pants and blazer I’m referring to here but more trench coat styles, bomber, puffers, dresses, and so much more. I always have my staple leather jacket in my autumn/winter wardrobe but I’m excited to see what else I can bring this coming season. Recent collections have taken a different approach with the styling and construction of these pieces ranging from a more 1970’s influence and others mainly street style.

Patchwork was so big during quarantine it almost makes me sick talking about it now. But the patchwork trend that I’m referring to for autumn/winter is much more elevated, more high fashion. Compared to the patchwork we saw sweep the ‘for you page’ of tiktok, this patchwork to me is more grandma’s quilt but make it chic. Some people even saying homeless chic, which in my mind just reminds me of an Olsen twin truly. I do love the juxtaposition of these patterns and how certain brands made them flow effortlessly.

Knitwear is a must for cooler weather but this year we saw a change in the knit. No longer are we going for our baggy oversized sweater but opting for more comfier silhouettes. With sets coming into play, since lounge sets were so big last year. I’m seeing long maxi knit dresses, something I would love live in, this time displayed in a more enticing way . The same can be said about the knit sets showing a little skin here and there.

Sixties is actually a style period that I loved. For those who don’t know, before I was obsessed with Cher I was obsessed with Audrey Hepburn, specifically Audrey circa 1961 was everything I wanted to be at a time. So in seeing that the sixties are making a comeback for this autumn/winter season I was ecstatic to say the least. The mod figure along with the monochromatic, I just die for it. Give me the short dresses and perfectly squared off jackets, I want it all. The straight pant leg works so well as we stray away from skinny jeans/pants. It’s a happy medium between skinny and wide leg. It’s a classic look that can be displayed nicely just on any body type.

Prada FW21 – Womenswear

Continuing with the theme of juxtaposition, Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons bring another collection quite similar to the previous men’s show. The show’s themes are as follows; transformation and change. We are introduce to the lovely knits we saw in the previous collection combined with black silhouettes that have the knitted Prada triangle on the back. There’s a plethora of rolled up sleeve suits paired with patterned knit long sleeve turtle necks. Giving very early 2000s girl boss vibes. An array of fur coats that either have a different patterned lining in the inside or a hint of sequins. Along with the fur coats are fur bags. Look 10 was very Prada-esque in its simplicity and power in that simplicity. The coat with red gloves and white leather knee high boats gave an almost Cruella De Vil influence without being too costume-y.

Venturing off we have more furs in wrap styles and of course, coats. Going back to the coats with inner sequins, we see that the sequins have different colors for each corresponding coat. Overload of sequins with dresses and mid-calf boots. The boots giving off the “hard” in the hard and soft look, the soft being the fur or knit. Along with the knits, similar patterns in the knitted jumpsuits and sleeves were used in the inner lining of the bombers we saw in the last collection. A black bomber paired with a red and black pattern and the dark brown bomber paired with a blue and black pattern. The main highlight of the show were definitely the coats. Ranging in colors and textures. The yellow being put together with a black bag and gloves while adding periwinkle thigh high boots for a little bit of contrast. This yellow that Raf and Miuccia are loving. After these bright hue of coats we move on to black loose fitting jumpsuits paired along side a knitted pattern displayed differently on each one. Look 37 and 41 gave off a sort of 1930s/1940s working woman style. The others gave a more slight 80s vibe. Following are the knitted long john’s paired with long opera style gloves with the signature Prada pouch. The gloves differencing in pattern to the knitted piece, almost as a way to feel the overwhelming-ness that is life in a pandemic.

Finally the show ending with three sequins coats. One in a forest green button up to the top styled with a light blue turtle neck and navy slacks. Referring to the theme on juxtaposition amongst the collection. The other two as follows; wider lapel brown sequins styled with a red turtle neck and charcoal slacks, and a metallic double breasted coat styled with a gray turtle neck and black slacks to finish off the show. Prada’s reimagining of what life would be after the pandemic is constantly evolving and it’s shown in both collection. With men’s feeling like we are adjusting to the pandemic world and women’s having a new since of hope because of new vaccines coming around. You can see in this women’s collection a small display of fear with the model clutching a wrap on their chest. Possibly fear of uncertainty or maybe even an emotional crutch. Nonetheless Raf and Miuccia are doing a wonderful collaboration with displaying hope in their collection.

Where’d You Get That?

Instead of doing an OOTD I decided to go for a better titled. Does that make me very #vscogirl? Anyways I bring you my very cute, very wannabe French, outfit.

The dress is an off white with a dark brown animal print from Nine West. A style that I wouldn’t normally go for but I think it’s great transition piece for summer and fall. It also works great for both seasons. I can layer it over a turtle neck but let’s be real it’s still really hot in Florida so there’s no reason for the layering. The shoes are a pair of strappy sandals that everyone and their mother owns from Forever 21. They have a square toe, giving that late 90s style. The exact shoes aren’t on the website anymore so I linked a pair that are somewhat similar.

My bag is a round, paper straw purse by Lauren Conrad. This particular color is no longer available on the site but hopefully it will be. I got this bag back in the summer because I loved the beach like vibes it gave me but I also think it went well with the color palette used in my outfit. I can transition easily into the fall because of the different hues of brown as well.
